The two boats are near-identical experiences run by different companies on different sides of the river. The Maid of the Mist sails from the American shore in New York State; Niagara City Cruises sails from the Canadian shore below Clifton Hill. Both nose into the Horseshoe Falls basin, both hand you a poncho, and both leave you comfortably soaked. The real difference is the dock you stand on and the border between them.

Because our chauffeurs work the Canadian side only and never cross into the United States, the boat we drive you to is Niagara City Cruises — no passport, no border line, no customs wait. Its ~20-minute Voyage to the Falls runs roughly late April through November and costs about CA$48 plus HST, paid by you at the gate on the day; we drive and wait, we don't resell admission. To reach the U.S. Maid of the Mist you would need a valid passport and a full border crossing, which sits outside what this service covers.

From Toronto the Canadian dock is about 128 km, close to a 90-minute drive, and your car stays yours the whole day at one flat per-vehicle rate with 13% HST already inside and no deposit. That means you can ride the boat, stay for the free nightly illumination, and catch the seasonal ~10 PM fireworks, then step back into a warm car that never left.
